All Steedsmans saddles are handmade from start to finish and in the 21st century streamlining the business is the key to its success. Colin Sargent, the Managing Director set up the company at a particularly challenging time for the saddlery industry but drive, determination and passion have seen the company grow successfully.
Dedicated to his craft, Colin has worked tirelessly to build a business based on his passion for the horse. Working in Walsall, the heart of the leather industry, since 1977, Colin did not want to see the decline of his trade. He has worked hard to streamline the techniques and processes at Steedsmans, allowing for the production of very high quality, luxury, handmade saddles at competitive prices.
Having worked with leather most of his life Colin’s aspiration was to build a successful business and re-establish the all important apprenticeship schemes that will keep the saddlery craftsmanship alive for generations. The new investment in the UK’s only computerised leather cutting technology now makes this possible. Each carefully designed luxury saddle is hand stitched and crafted.
Therefore, although increasing production levels his high standards are not compromised but enhanced by such a unique investment.
Having enjoyed great success over the years, Steedsman has relocated to Telford, Shropshire and now has room at the premises to take on new apprentices, keeping the traditional industry alive with a modern twist.
